Questions, answered plainly.

A private day in Tokyo and a multi-city journey are different kinds of travel. These answers explain how each works, who plans and delivers it, and what to expect before you book.

Choosing the right service

What is the difference between a Bespoke Journey and a Bespoke Tour?

A Bespoke Journey is a multi-day, multi-city program planned through an inquiry and proposal. A Bespoke Tour is a private, bookable day in Tokyo shaped around your interests, pace and practical needs.

If you need help across several days or destinations, begin with a Bespoke Journey. If you want one private day in or around Tokyo, begin with a bookable tour.

Can my itinerary be customized?

Yes. Every Bespoke Journey begins with your dates, interests, pace and practical requirements. A Bespoke Tour can also be shaped around what matters to your group.

Layover Tours, Departure Tours and Day Trips have a clearer starting structure because timing and distance matter, but the final plan is still confirmed around your circumstances.

Can Elite Tokyo Tours plan travel outside Tokyo?

Yes. Bespoke Journeys can extend across multiple regions of Japan. Elite Tokyo Tours coordinates the agreed itinerary through its in-house team and a vetted regional network, while remaining your central point of contact.

How far in advance should I get in touch?

As early as you reasonably can, especially for a multi-day journey or fixed travel dates. Availability depends on your dates, group, destinations and requested experiences. If your trip is close, send an inquiry and the team will tell you what can realistically be arranged.

Who plans and delivers the experience

Does the founder personally accompany every journey?

No. The founder accompanies a limited number of programs. Depending on the journey, individual days may be led by the founder, an in-house guide or a vetted regional guide.

Before you confirm, the proposal will explain how the journey is intended to be delivered. Elite Tokyo Tours remains responsible for the plan and your point of contact throughout the agreed program.

What happens when a different guide leads part of the journey?

The guide is matched to the region, itinerary and needs of your group. They receive the agreed plan and the relevant context before the day begins. Elite Tokyo Tours continues to coordinate the program, so you are not left to manage separate providers yourself.

All guides in each region have been vetted directly by our team, and we have a working relationship with each of them. If for any reason you are unhappy with a guide, we can arrange a replacement.

Will I need to coordinate with several different companies?

Not for the services included in your agreed program. Elite Tokyo Tours coordinates the moving parts within that scope and remains the central point of contact. Your proposal will make clear what the team is arranging and what, if anything, remains outside that scope.

What does white-glove service mean here?

It means attentive planning, clear communication and careful coordination of the services agreed with you. It does not mean an unlimited or undefined concierge service. The scope is set out before confirmation so you know what is included, who is responsible and how support will work during your trip.

Which languages are supported?

The core service is provided in English and Japanese. If you need another language, include it in your inquiry. It will only be offered when suitable support can be confirmed.

Planning and reservations

How does the planning process begin?

Start with the inquiry form and share what you already know. The team will review your dates, group, route, interests and practical needs, then follow up to clarify the brief. If the journey is a good fit, you will receive a proposal defining the planned scope, delivery and next steps.

How do reservations work?

Elite Tokyo Tours coordinates reservations that are included in the agreed scope. All reservations remain subject to availability, venue rules, release dates and any payment conditions imposed by the provider. Your proposal will identify what the team will arrange and any decisions or payments needed from you.

What is included in a multi-day program?

There is no universal inclusion list because each Bespoke Journey is different. Depending on the agreed scope, a program may include itinerary planning, guiding, private transport, regional coordination and selected reservations. Your proposal is the definitive record of what is included and excluded.

Can you work around hotels or transport I have already booked?

Yes. Share confirmed bookings as early as possible so the itinerary can be planned around them. The team will explain whether any existing arrangements limit timing, routing or the experiences that can be included.

Can you accommodate dietary requirements or mobility needs?

Tell the team as early and as specifically as possible. These requirements can affect venue selection, timing, routes and transport. Elite Tokyo Tours will confirm in the proposal what can be supported rather than assuming that every venue or experience will be suitable.

We have extensive experience working with kosher, halal and vegetarian requirements, and with a range of food allergies.

Are families with children welcome?

Yes. Include each child's age and any needs that may affect pacing, seating, meals or activities. Child seats and vehicle requirements must be confirmed in advance and should not be assumed from an online booking alone.

Booking a private day

Can I book a single day online?

Yes. The current bookable options are the Bespoke Tour, Layover Tour, Departure Tour and Day Trips. Check the relevant product page for its current details, then provide the requested trip information during booking.

What if I want a themed day focused on art, anime, crafts, food, shopping, sneakers or music?

Choose the Bespoke Tour and describe the theme, places or subcultures that interest you. The themed guides on this site are intended as inspiration, not rigid itineraries or a promise that every featured place will be available on your date.

What is the difference between a Layover Tour and a Departure Tour?

A Layover Tour is planned between arriving and departing flights. A Departure Tour is planned before your flight out of Japan. In both cases, airport, terminal, luggage, traffic and check-in timing must be confirmed before the route is finalized.

What happens if weather or local conditions affect the day?

The team will assess the conditions and contact you if timing, transport or the route needs to change. Safety and realistic travel times take priority. Any cancellation or refund is handled under the policy that applies to your booking.

Pricing, payment and cancellation

Why is there no fixed public price for a Bespoke Journey?

Multi-day programs vary in length, route, party size, transport, guiding and reservation requirements. Pricing is therefore prepared from an agreed brief and presented in a proposal before you confirm.

How do payment and cancellation terms work?

The two services have separate terms:

  • Online day-tour bookings follow the Day Tour Booking and Cancellation Policy presented during booking. A cancellation received at least 24 hours before the scheduled start is eligible for a refund of the amount paid, less any non-recoverable third-party costs committed specifically for the booking.
  • Bespoke Journeys follow the Program Terms supplied with the proposal. A 50% deposit secures the dates, the remaining balance is due 15 calendar days before the first scheduled service, and different cancellation charges apply depending on when notice is received. Non-recoverable third-party costs may also apply.

Always check the policy attached to your booking. The terms of one service do not replace the terms of the other.

When will I receive a reply?

The team normally replies by email within 24 hours. If a request needs additional checking before a complete answer is possible, you will receive an acknowledgment and the team will follow up.

Before you inquire

What information should I send?

Share whatever is already known, including:

  • travel dates and any flexibility;
  • number of travelers and children's ages;
  • cities or regions under consideration;
  • confirmed hotels, flights or transport;
  • interests and priorities;
  • preferred pace and comfortable walking level;
  • dietary, mobility or language requirements; and
  • anything the trip must include or avoid.

You do not need to have a finished itinerary. The purpose of the inquiry is to establish whether Elite Tokyo Tours can shape the right plan with you.
