A Summer Journey from Tokyo to the Gion Festival

Summer couples' trip across Japan

This sixteen-day summer journey was built for a couple whose dates placed two major events at the center of the route: Expo 2025 in Osaka and Kyoto’s Gion Festival. Tokyo, Mt. Fuji, Hakone, Nara and Hiroshima completed the journey, while rest and independent time kept the event days from overwhelming the rest of the trip.

Tokyo: a measured start

The first Tokyo days introduced the city through a mix of neighborhoods, landmarks and contemporary culture. The schedule was designed to leave room for the couple to settle in before the journey moved west.

Mt. Fuji and Hakone: scenery and a slower interval

The Fuji and Hakone portion created a deliberate pause between Tokyo and the larger event program. Private touring supported the move through the region, while spa time and a slower evening gave the couple space to reset.

Osaka and Nara: Expo 2025 and a day beyond the city

From Osaka onward the couple were welcomed by local driver-guides from our network, following the same itinerary, with our Tokyo team remaining their single point of contact throughout.

Osaka was organized around time at Expo 2025 rather than trying to layer a full city tour on top of it. Nara then offered a contrasting day of temples, parkland and deer before the route continued to Kyoto.

Kyoto: the Gion Festival as the anchor

Kyoto was timed around the Gion Festival, including the atmosphere of the city as it prepared for and moved through the celebration. The program treated the festival as the center of these days, with the rest of the schedule built around it instead of competing with it.

Hiroshima and Miyajima: history and reflection

The final regional chapter connected Hiroshima and Miyajima, adding a quieter, reflective conclusion before the return to Tokyo.

What made it work

The journey was structured around fixed-date events without making every day feel fixed. Private touring handled the complex transitions, and rest, spa time and independent periods gave the couple control over their energy. The result was a broad route that still felt paced around the travelers rather than the calendar alone.
