A Spring Journey Through Kyushu

Two travelers, planned around two Shabbats Spring

Green Aso grasslands rising above a sea of clouds

This planned sixteen-day spring journey for two would connect Tokyo, Kyushu and Kyoto while building the entire route around two Shabbat stays. The brief called for a program that could reach deep into Kyushu without compromising Friday timing, Saturday rest or the overall pace of the trip.

One of our own guides would accompany the couple for the full sixteen days, from Tokyo through Kyushu to Kyoto, as we would always propose for a route built around Shabbat.

Tokyo: four nights before the road journey

The journey would begin with four nights in Tokyo, giving the travelers time to settle in and explore before flying south. This opening would also avoid placing a long transfer too early in the trip.

Fukuoka: arrival and the first Shabbat

After a domestic flight, Fukuoka would become the base for two nights. Friday touring would finish early, and Saturday would remain free of scheduled touring and transport.

Aso and Takachiho: Kyushu by private vehicle

The route would then continue by private vehicle through the Aso area and Takachiho, with one night in each. This would be the most road-oriented part of the journey, planned as a connected sequence rather than a series of rushed day trips from a distant base.

Kagoshima: two nights and a second regional base

Two nights in Kagoshima would provide another base before the flight back to Kansai. The sequence would give the travelers time to experience southern Kyushu without adding another same-day transfer.

Kyoto and Nara: five nights around the second Shabbat

The final five nights would be in Kyoto, including the second Shabbat and a day trip to Nara. A first-class rail transfer from Osaka would complete the move from the domestic flight into Kyoto, and the longer stay would reduce packing while leaving one leisure day in the overall program.

What would make it work

The route would use the right mode for each transition: domestic flights for the longest jumps, a private vehicle for the Kyushu road journey and first-class rail into Kyoto. Two Shabbat stays, early Friday finishes and one leisure day would shape the itinerary from the beginning, rather than being added after the route was already built.
